31 Weeks and Counting

Well it's been 7 1/2 weeks since our surgery and we are officially only 5 1/2 weeks away from meeting our little one; whew, it's so nice knowing that I am past the point of sitting around and that our time is getting closer until we meet our little man! The shower is over, the nursery is complete, and Mike and I are in the process of getting together our last few pieces that we need for the baby.

We had our last measurement appointment on September 4th and we won't have another one until September 25th to see how much our little guy has grown. The last growth appointment he was already 3 pounds so we are hoping that with his measuring every three weeks he will continue to grow healthily and we will see what he looks like next week!

At today's appointment we took a look at the things we usually look at; his legs, back, vital organs, and brain. The bigger he gets the more difficult it will be to look at these things because his skull is getting thicker and with his body usually breached we don't always get a good look at his back and how it's healing. In fact, we really only have a few more weeks to do this before he gets too big and then it's time for his delivery.

At this point Mike, baby and I only have 5 more appointments before the c-section which is coming up quickly! The doctors were ecstatic that I have officially made it to the 31 week mark. They want me to make sure I am moving my body so it's ready for the baby and the movement I will have post delivery, but also wanted to remind me to take it easy because although we went through the surgery almost 8 weeks ago we are still considered very high risk and we don't want him to come before October 29th so he can continue to grow and have healthy lungs and organs.

Today's appointment was similar to last weeks, which is why I didn't write about the appointment with repeated information. :) Baby Hilton's ventricles (fluid in the brain) is still stable, at about 16 and 18 millimeters for his left and right areas. Although they have yet to decrease, staying stable is the next best thing and they are not increasing which is something we are staying positive about. We will continue to look at the ventricles each week to see if there is any change and then once he is born we will take it from there!

His vital organs and heart looked good. He has two functioning kidney's, good size stomach, bladder looks great, and his heartbeat was strong in the 140's which is usually the norm for him. Again, he was breached with his back and legs lower while his head was on the left side of my stomach, which explains why the left side of my stomach was so hard this morning. After checking his organs it was onto his brain.

Great news today... baby's cerebellum is looking great! In fact, we were told that his cerebellum is looking fantastic, which is a HUGE step in the healing process for him. His head is looking a lot more round which is another good step because the pulling is no longer happening on his head and brain. It may take some time for everything to be fully healed but we are in the right direction.

Next week Mike and I will have our weekly appointment to check on our usual baby brain and body, as well as how he has been growing within the last three weeks, and we will get a tour of the NICU. I had a tour a while ago but Mike has yet to check it out to see where our little one will be for some time while he continues to heal, so we will take a look at the rooms we will be in and where to find everything we need while we hang out at Mott's; our official second home.

Until next week it looks like I will continue to keep myself busy by working on meals to make at home, school work and creating units for when I return to work, and creating a baby album/scrapbook for when he is born!
