Another two weeks have flown by and Carter is six and a half months old and doing well. He had his 6 month peds check up this past weekend and we got so much information on how he is doing, growing, and next steps for eating too!
It was a fun Saturday morning while we met with the doctor and she saw how much bigger Carter has gotten. In fact, in the last two weeks Carter has gained another pound and a half! At our appointment Carter weighed a whopping 21 lbs. 21.5oz. What a big boy. This explains why I feel like his car seat is super heavy... because he is! This is such a wonderful sign though especially because Carter was born 6 weeks early.
He continues to get taller which we are also very happy about. At this time Carter is in 6-9 month shirts but 12 months pants because his thighs are so big that he needs to have enough room but we end up rolling them about 4 times so we can see his feet. ;)
We were thrilled that we got the okay to start feeding Carter real baby food now! Although he still has majority bottles throughout the day, we have started feeding him rice cereal during dinner time. We started with some flavor to bring into his life; banana apple... yum. After a week of rice cereal to make sure he is doing well with the change we can start to give him fruits and vegetables too. It's such a sight to see when he grabs at the spoon and gets excited when he gets another bite.
While Carter grows and continues to put a smile on my face everyday I am continuing my work with MOTT to raise money for families of children with SB as well as helping MOTT with their research for children with SB.
The first official event will be held on Sunday, May 17th from 1:00-2:30pm at the Howell Area Aquatic Center in Howell, Michigan. The Aquatic Center has graciously donated their time and space for us to raise money with an open swim for anyone who would like to join us. This is by donations only to come and swim, any donation you can give us is greatly appreciated.
We are so excited to have this event be our first, since I come from a swimming family and because swimming and water therapy is great for all kids with SB, something Carter has started doing with me on the weekends. :)
Not only will children and families be able to swim but there will be an inflatable, called the whibit, in the shallow end for children to climb up and jump off, all in the water!!!! This is a huge hit with kids and they love getting the chance to be "on top of the water!".
We are hoping for a great first event turnout as this is a fun activity that anyone can come to and for families to enjoy on a Sunday before school. While people are coming in and hanging out around the pool we will have information about SB that we can share with others, as well as information about MOTT and the surgery that Carter and I had. Obviously at this point people know that I am happy to share our story and to get the word out about SB to anyone who doesn't know about it.
If you happen to read this please share with anyone you know about our upcoming event. We so appreciated all of the kind words and support throughout the many surgeries we went through and we want to be able to give back and help others.
Only 11 more days until I have a 7 month old... so crazy!

No pants... as you can see from the size of those thighs!!!
